DISTINGUISHED BENEFACTORS ROOM SMITHSONIAN, CASTLE Client: Smithsonian Size: 130 sq.ft. Completed: 2000 This project transformed a storage room in one of America’s most important Gothic Revival buildings. The design approach was to leave all the existing physical characteristics of the enclosing walls intact and to create a new layer of walls within to display the names of donors. The design needed to harmonize with the existing historic architecture, but consciously strives to create an appropriate character for an institution that is dedicated to present day explorations as well as the preservation of its treasures. back |
