EXHIBIT: SANTOS
SUBSTANCE AND SOUL

Client: Smithsonian Inst.
Size: 3500 sq.ft.
Completed: 2001

This bilingual travelling exhibition explores the history of 40 Santos—small carvings of saints from Puerto Rico, New Mexico, Mexico and South America. While displaying the visual spirit of the sculptures, the exhibit includes text panels, touch screens and back lighted displays, that examine the materials used to make and preserve the statues. The Santos are exhibited in
special cases that allow critical humidity levels to be maintained. Temporary exhibit walls were designed as the backdrops for mounting text panels.
